When the preliminary plan for an operation is approved, a call to action (CTA) email and text is initially sent out to Greyshirts within a radius up to 450-miles of the incident. This radius might initially be smaller if the event had a smaller impact. The radius might expand as the operational needs require. For larger operations (Type 1-3), TR will send the notification to all Greyshirts nationwide. Regardless of the radius, the notification will go out via text message and/or email depending on your Roll Call Profile Notification Preferences.

Greyshirts located more than 450 miles from the operation are provided flights by TR to the operation based on cost, logistics, availability, and operational needs. For domestic operations, Greyshirts traveling by air must be available for the minimum number of consecutive days to align with listed flight waves for the operation; this is usually 8 consecutive days. However, occasionally, slightly shorter sprint waves may be offered.

Please know that the Mobilization team can get hundreds of Greyshirts requesting to be deployed and it takes some time for the team to go through all the responses and make selections based off the current operational needs.

Sometimes that can be down to the wire, other times it can be more in advance; and the stand down orders (that say you weren't selected) generally aren't issued until the wave is already out.

We understand and appreciate that it's not always convenient and are always working on improving the process.

There is no need to email us that you are available and ready to go, your signing up is enough!
